I put the source of this blog on github. I had been logging the changes I'd been making for a while now, but without the code revisions to go with the changes... it was kinda useless.
So here's my blog on github. I've also added github changes to my existing changelog, so that's still pretty complete.
Comment Spam
I was noticing increased numbers of spam comments getting through Akismet, so re-adjusted the fields on my comment form a bit. I just renamed the email
field to jerry_the_spider
, and made it so if you put anything in the field called email
Python throws a 404. Similarly there's a honeypot
field, which is something that I noticed was included with the Django comments module when I used to use it; same principal.
It turns out this method worked so well I didn't need Akismet anymore, so completely removed it. I get 0 spam comments now, and if I were to start getting them (because a bot had been configured to understand what I've done or something) then I could just do the same with other fields, give them misleading and random names.
Clik here to view.

Ads
I also added Google Adsense ads to the bottom of the single post sidebar. Going to give them a trial run for a bit, but it's been a few days and no-one has clicked on any, so I'm not very hopeful.
